The show is hosted by children’s book author Suzanne Lieurance who has a free e-book available for children’s book writers on her website. This link goes to info about my book and the free e-book:
Also, Suzanne’s a founding faculty member of the Writing for Children Center, which offers yet another free e-book for children’s lit writers at http://writingforchildrencenter.com/.
In this video I’m reading from my new book, Taneesha Never Disparging, and blinking–A LOT. Jean Daigneau, Regional Advisor for the Northern Ohio Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), talks about our upcoming conference in Cleveland (Sept. 5-6), too. And she blinks only when necessary…

“I love Taneesha’s struggles. Her problems grow bigger and bigger until they’re ready to burst. The author does a great job of moving the story forward toward its inevitable ending. The characters interact well, and readers will feel Taneesha’s very real frustration when her parents won’t listen to what she’s trying to say or when her friend doesn’t seem to know what’s wrong… this is a book that will resonate with its target audience….The cover art, by honor winning Floyd Cooper, is worth mentioning, as the characters are ready to jump off the cover and tell their own stories.”

YAY!!!
Buy Taneesha here. (This is my publisher. The book’s available from Amazon, too. But my publisher gives a nice discount. Plus they are very nice folks.)

Has anyone else read this book? I finished it today. It was a quick read. I couldn’t help thinking that it was like witnessing the beginning of a sea change. Kind of like what the Blues, and later, Rock and Roll, and still later, Hip Hop, did to music. Created a genre that had never quite existed before–one that will now be with us forever.
For me, apparently unlike all the other readers on Amazon, Hugo Cabret wasn’t an earth-moving read. But it did succeed in making me read and turn the page. I wanted to know where it was going. And, really, as an author, if your reader does more than that—for instance, if he or she is deeply moved as a result of your work—that’s just so much frosting. Wonderfully delicious frosting, maybe. But frosting nonetheless.
I recommend this one. You’ll be glad you read it. It’s a feel good book. With hidden messages, intrigue, and detailed, artistic illustrations. It’s also the first novel to win the Caldecott—An American Library Association (ALA) honor for illustrations. Caldecott’s have, until now, been awarded only to picture books.
